Formats acceptés pour l'archivage au SLDR / A list of formats compliant with SLDR long-term preservation

Before submitting documents, please check their compatiblity with long-term preservation (on small samples) using CINES validator:

Audio
- WAV or BWF with linear (PCM) encoding
- AIFF with linear (PCM) little-endian encoding
- AAC
- FLAC
Video
- MPEG4 + H.264 (AVC) + AAC
- OGG + Theora + Vorbis
- MKV + H.264 (AVC) + Flac (the only format with linear-encoded sound)
Notes :
- If the source video is in DV format we strongly recommend to preserve copies on external disks till the day a non-compressed format is accepted for long-term preservation. DV format also encapsulates absolute time-code which may be very practical for editing.
- If a linear format is available for the sound track, do not forget to export a PCM-encoded AIFF or WAV file to preserve the quality of the original track.
- Beware of not using a file format containing additional tracks. For instance, some software packages include a text track carrying chapter markers. Such is the case with
HandBrake, default settings. This option must be deactivated!

Notes
Quelques formats spécifiques / A few specific formats
Enrichissements / Annotations
- Text files with UTF8 (Unicode) encoding. Beware that UTF16 is not accepted!
- ODT (Open Document)
- RTF: we suggest converting to ODT ou XML (
voir) PRAAT files
- These are text files that should be stored in UTF8 format. Please save the list of extensions used for these files to make sure that they will be recognised as text files. See for instance
sldr000034 in which f0, cb, int, lab, pho, means, intensity are declared as extensions of text files. - Any file with an unknown extension is treated as a binary file of unknown format, with the effect that it cannot be sent to long-term preservation.
- A
script is proposed to unpack a PRAAT archive and replace is with AIFF or WAV and UTF8 files. - Another
script makes it possible to recycle PRAAT annoattion files to UTF8. => Carefully check the result!

Formats à l'étude / Formats eligible for future extensions
- ODS (OpenOffice spreadsheet). Please convert all spreadsheets (e.g. MS-Excel) to this format!
