Phonedit SIGNAIX
(Alain GHIO, Robert ESPESSER)
software
Laboratoire parole et langage - UMR 7309 (LPL, Aix-en-Provence FR)
PHONEDIT Signaix is a software for the analysis of sound, aerodynamic, articulatory and electro-physiological signals developped by the "Parole et Langage" Laboratory, Aix-en-Provence, France. It provides a complete environment for the recording, the playback, the display, the analysis, the labeling of multiparametric data.
Current version (2009) authorises the control of EVA2 workstation. You can directly record aerodynamics data of EVA2 with Phonedit. (Use the "Tools" menu to select the recording device.)
PHONEDIT Signaix plugins can be used with Linux/Cygwin environment to customize processes with bash script. It runs with recent Windows operating system on PC.
PHONEDIT Signaix is free of charge and can be downloaded.

Anonymise sound files
(Daniel HIRST)
software
Laboratoire parole et langage - UMR 7309 (LPL, Aix-en-Provence FR)
PRAAT script.
Purpose: replace portions of a long sound which are labelled with a key word on the accompanying TextGrid with a hum sound with the same prosodic characteristics as the original sound.
Original long sound can be mono or stereo, anonymised sound will be same.

Bol Processor BP2
(Anthony KOZAR, Bernard BEL)
software
Individual contribution
Bol Processor 2 (BP2) is a music composition/improvisation software producing arrangements of sound-objects with a set of rules similar to formal grammars. The inference engine produces strings of symbols feeding an algorithm for the expansion of (polymetric) polyphonic/polyrhythmic structures, and ultimately a time-setting algorithm dealing with constraints on sound-objects. First interfaced with MIDI and Csound, BP2 has a great potential for modelling durations and melodic patterns in speech synthesis.

Individual contribution

IPA-Sampa
(Daniel HIRST)
software
Laboratoire parole et langage - UMR 7309 (LPL, Aix-en-Provence FR)
This utility was developed with the help of the Ukelele package. It allows typing a text directly in SAMPA (the ASCII encoding for IPA) and getting it converted to IPA in a word processor. This version only works under MacOS X with a French keyboard. Still, if anyone needs (a few) further developments I can take care of them or I will give instructions for doing them. Everything is explained in the lisez-moi!.pdf file. Today the IPA font recommended by SIL is Unicode CharisSIL4 that may be downloaded from: http://scripts.sil.org/CharisSILfont

ProZed. A prosody editor for linguists
(Daniel HIRST)
software
Laboratoire parole et langage - UMR 7309 (LPL, Aix-en-Provence FR)
ProZed is a tool designed to allow linguists to manipulate the prosody of an utterance via a symbolic representation in order to evaluate linguistic models.
Prosody is manipulated via a Praat TextGrid which allows the user to modify the rhythm and melody.
Rhythm is manipulated by factoring segmental duration into three components: (i) intrinsic duration determined by phonemic identity (ii) local modifications encoded in the Rhythm unit and (iii) global variations of tempo encoded in the Intonation Unit.
Melody is similarly determined by tonal segments in the Tonal Unit (corresponding to pitch accents) and the Intonation Unit (corresponding to boundary tones) together with global parameters of \emph{key} and \emph{span} determining changes of pitch register.
The TextGrid is used to generate a Manipulation object which allows an immediate interactive assessment of the prosody determined by the annotation.

Sampa2Praat
(Daniel HIRST)
software
Laboratoire parole et langage - UMR 7309 (LPL, Aix-en-Provence FR)
The Sampa2Praat plugin allows you to convert transcriptions between the SAMPA annotation and the Praat codings of the International Phonetic Alphabet, in either direction. Select a TextGrid in the object window then choose Sampa2Praat from the dynamic menu.
It can convert either individual phonemes or strings of phonemes (syllables, words, …).
The converted transcription can either replace the original or be placed in a new tier.
Any symbols in the transcription tier which are not in the conversion file are replaced by /*/.

Wspect is a Win PC program for display and spectrum analysis of .wav files, some collected wisdom from my past work with speech. Results are displayed on screen in b/w. A main feature is that they are easily saved for documentation, either printed, or parts of them selected and saved as bitmap files.
