A preview of the entire corpus (crdo000717) is in preparation. Currently we are copying to disk the entire corpus, rebuilding the index and exporting tracks to AIFF (48 KHz) and MP3 (128 Kbps) formats.

The corpus was recorded on digital audio cassettes (DAT). The name of the collection was "Unfettered Voices". Therefore cassette labels start with the prefix "UVS" in which 'S' stands for "sound".
Since the UVS reference has already been used in the SONGS database and a few publications we felt it necessary to preserve this labelling system in the on-line corpus. Thus, UVS-28 designates the content of DAT cassette #28, and UVS-28-03 is the third 'track' (or 'program') of this cassette.
The indexing of audio cassettes is meant to separate regions in which distinct tunes have been used. Its aim was to facilitate tune classification. This indexing has been preserved in the on-line corpus to facilitate access to recorded material from transcriptions in the SONGS database, and conversely.
